Why trees

In our global battle against climate change, trees are a 400 million year old solution at our fingertips.

Forests stand as unsung heroes, tirelessly capturing carbon, cooling our planet, and preserving vital wildlife habitats while orchestrating the delicate water cycle.

The devastating impact of deforestation

Every year we lose 10 million hectares of forest — an area roughly the size of Iceland. Deforestation accounts for about 10% of global carbon emissions and threatens biodiversity on a massive scale.

Right trees, right place, right time

We establish relationships with trusted reforestation partners utilizing a strict checklist of criteria that follows Goal 15 of the Sustainability Development Goals.

Forests are more than just trees

The health of a forest ecosystem depends on a vibrant and diverse animal community. Loss and fragmentation of habitat is one of the biggest threats to a spectrum of animal species.

We endeavor to restore biodiversity by rejoining habitat remnants and planting trees that attract animals and protect endangered species.

Particular attention is paid to attracting "keystone" species such as bees, elephants, and wolves, which have a disproportionately large effect on the health of their natural environment.

Bees

Bees

Bees support the reproduction of as much as 90 percent of the world's fruits, vegetables, and other crops that humans and other species survive on.

Wolves

Wolves

Wolves have a "cascade effect" by keeping elk in check, which prevents over-browsing along riverbanks, creating an entire chain of ecological benefits.

Elephants

Elephants

Elephants, the gardeners of the forest, keep dominant plants in check and spread plant seeds through their digestive tract for better germination.

A handful of the projects we support

Usambara Mountains

Usambara Mountains

Once entirely bush and savannah, the landscape in Tanzania is now semidesert after heavy deforestation. The goal of our planting partner is to re-wild this area with 230 million trees of varying native species.

Indonesian Mangroves

Indonesian Mangroves

Restoring mangrove forests along Indonesia's coastline, which are critical nurseries for marine life and protect communities from coastal erosion and storm surges.

Reforestation Project

Community Reforestation

Working hand-in-hand with local communities, we support planting projects that provide sustainable livelihoods while restoring critical ecosystems.
